Nordic Exceptionalism

The concept of exceptionalism refers to the idea that a particular group or community, like a nation-state, possesses distinct qualities that distinguish them and make them superior to other groups or nations. Nordic countries, for instance, consider themselves different from other European countries based on their history, particularly their role in colonialism.

Whenever nations hold themselves exceptional, they may evade accountability for systemic discrimination such as racism and class inequities.
